I'm saying this without hesitation:
What is happening to Shana Gaviola is a warning to every parent in America.
A California mother is about to enter federal prison for three years, not for abuse, not for neglect, not for harming her child, but for trying to protect her son when a school began socially transitioning him behind her back.
Let's be clear:
Shana didn't "kidnap" her child.
She didn't "endanger" him.
She stepped in because the very institution entrusted with his education decided it could make secret, life-altering decisions without her consent.
Her son was socially transition at high school. Information was withheld.
Her parental role was pushed aside.
And when she said no, when she said this is my child, the system didn't partner with her, instead, it punished her.
She is now set to serve her sentence in a federal correctional facility.
This is what institutional overreach looks like.
This is what happens when schools forget their place.
This is what happens when parents are treated as obstacles instead of partners.
Shana arranged for her son to attend a structured Christian boarding school because she believed he was being guided down a path he wasn't ready for, a path she wasn't even allowed to know about. Her son is now 21. He never transitioned. And yet she's the one paying the price.
A mother is going to prison for trying to protect her child from a system that shut her out.
If that doesn't shake people awake, I don't know what will.
Voices for Safety stands with Shana Gaviola. I stand with Shana Gaviola.
We stand with every parent who refuses to be sidelined.
We stand with families who demand transparency, honest, and respect.
Because if a mother can be imprisoned for stepping in when a school crosses the line, then parental rights aren't just under attack they're being dismantled.
